NIC SOCCER: Horton saves a draw for Cardinals

SPOKANE — Former Lake City High standout and current North Idaho College sophomore goalie Tanner Horton punched off a go-ahead penalty kick in the final four minutes of a 0-0 draw against the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch on Wednesday at Spokane Falls Community College.
“Tanner made a spectacular play to get that ball away,” NIC coach Ken Thompson said. “We made some poor choices on where to foul guys and gave them some chances late. It was Tanner’s best save of the year so far. It was impressive.”
NIC (4-2-2, 2-0-2, 8 points) travels to Wenatchee Valley on Saturday.
Spokane (4-2-2, 2-1-1, 7 points) coach Kenny Krestian was ejected from the game for arguing with the officials.
“He’d been working the officials since the fourth minute and they finally had enough,” Thompson said. “It was a great rivalry game. We’ve been mixing up the lineup a little bit, but tonight was a good way to go. I’m happy with the performance. We’ve been talking about putting together 90 good minutes, and we did that tonight.”
