At 1: 48 a.m., Jason Alan DeShazer pulled up next to a parked Sheriff’s cruiser and asked if the cop needed help just before that officer arrested DeShazer for felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and misdemeanor criminal possession of dangerous drug paraphernalia Sept. 13, according to a Lake County Court affidavit.

DeShazer told the officer he thought the Lake County Sheriff’s deputy that was parked on a pullout near Montana 35, mile marker 12 had actually smashed into a guardrail.

Suspecting DeShazer might be drunk, the deputy inquired about DeShazer’s name, learned he was on parole for felony negligent homicide and had a suspended license.

That’s when the deputy asked to search DeShazer’s car.

A female passenger sat in DeShazer’s front seat as the deputy searched the car then found a pipe, spoons, burnt foil, a syringe and two baggies of a substance he believed was methamphetamines, the affidavit said.

The woman told the deputy she and DeShazer were using “meth since Sept. 10 when he picked her up from Missoula,” records said.

The deputy saw the needle marks on the woman’s arms as she explained the drug items in the car were shared property between the two vehicle occupants.

The deputy then found cell phone evidence referring to the purchase of methamphetamines and heroin, the records said.

DeShazer agreed, later telling his probation officer he was using methamphetamines Sept. 11 and 12.

DeShazer, 32, served part of his 10-year sentence behind bars after he killed Dawn Bowker, 27, a Somers Middle School teacher in 2006 during an auto accident.

DeShazer reportedly blacked out after a night of drinking. He was released after 3.5 years, thanks in part to Bowker’s family.

DeShazer traveled around Flathead Valley schools after his 2012 release to teach the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. 

DeShazer is being held on a $10,000 bail.
