Area journalism students earn scholarships

Students within the University of Montana School of Journalism recently earned scholarships for their excellence, commitment and professional potential. Here is a list of scholarships with a local connection:
• Hannah-Laura Rudolph, of Bigfork, earned a $4,500 Myre-McGaugh Scholarship. She is a 2012 graduate of Bigfork High School and the daughter of Mary and Don Rudolph of Juneau, Alaska. (The late John McGaugh was a former publisher of the Daily Inter Lake. His wife was the former Hilda Myre of Kalispell.)
• Keiko Sagami, of Bigfork, earned a $7,000 Montana Broadcasters Association Diversity Scholarship. She is a 2012 graduate from Bigfork High School and the daughter of Kelly Johns of Kalispell and Tony Sagami of Seattle.
• Tana Wilson, of Libby, received a $1,000 Butte Press Club/Rick Foote Memorial Scholarship. She is a 2012 graduate of Libby High School and the daughter of Bill and Rebel Wilson of Libby.
• Peregrine Frissell, of Polson, earned a $7,500 Lee and Donna Metcalf Scholarship. He is a 2012 Polson High School graduate and the son of Dale Hannon and Chris Frissell of Polson.
• Tailyr Irvine, of Ronan, earned a $250 Robert L. Wolfe Scholarship. She is a 2011 graduate of Ronan High School and the daughter of Angela LaForge of Missoula and Michael Irvine of Ronan.
• Joshua Thomas, of Troy, earned a $2,500 Cordingley Scholarship. He is a 2012 graduate of Troy High School and the son of Milli and Gary Beal of Troy.
A scholarship in the name of a Daily Inter Lake reporter who died in a plane crash in 2010 was also awarded. Claire Chandler, of Bozeman, earned a $2,000 Melissa Weaver Memorial Scholarship. She is a 2012 graduate of Bozeman High School and the daughter of Sonja and Doug Chandler of Bozeman. Weaver, who grew up in Billings, was a University of Montana graduate.
Another scholarship with a local connection was also awarded. Allison Molin, a journalism major, earned a $1,000 Jennifer Servo Memorial Award. She is a 2010 graduate of Billings West High School and the daughter of Nancy and Jon Molin of Billings. Jennifer Servo, from Columbia Falls, was a TV news reporter who was murdered in Texas in 2002, shortly after graduating from the University of Montana. Her murder has never been solved.
