CROSS COUNTRY

Middle school meet: Lakes Middle School ran the Cherry Hill Invitational on Sept. 24. A total of 128 boys and 98 girls finished the 1.48-mile hilly course. Winners were Carter Gordon of Woodland and Lauren Forster of Coeur d’Alene Charter.
 
Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy won the boys and girls team titles.

JUNIOR TACKLE

Fifth grade
Chargers 44, Post Falls Predators 8: Hudson Howard, Maddix Maciosek and Brodie Beebe rushed for a combined 178 yards in the win. Brodie Beebe threw three touchdown passes totaling 78 yards. Zach Johnson caught 2 touchdown passes and ran for a 3rd, and Kyle Bridge also caught a touchdown and ran for a touchdown. Hudson Howard scored on a long touchdown run. The defense was led by a strong performance two weeks in a row by Varick Meredith and Colton Simkins.
Eighth grade
Silver Valley Storm 28, Coeur d’Alene Jaguars 12: Wes Sando threw for 110 yards including 2 touchdown passes (14 yds and 24 yds) and ran for 20 yards for the Jaguars.
Todd Callaghan had 4 catches for 70 yards and a 24-yard touchdown reception; Cade Sample had a 14-yard reception for a touchdown; Hunter Brett had 62 all-purpose yards, with 42 yards on kick returns. Lukas Neal ran for 35 yards.
Defensively Todd Callaghan and Ryan Rios were the Jaguars’ top tacklers with 9 each followed by Blake Vucinich andThomas Schmidt with 7 tackles each and Donte Ryen with 6 tackles. Ryan Rios and Nate Hayes each had a fumble recovery and Callaghan also had an interception and a fumble recovery. Lukas Neal also had an interception.

The Post Falls Trojan Orange played the CdA Steelers to a hard-fought tie on Saturday. The game moves the Trojans record to 2-0-1 on the season. Through 3 games, Derek Pearse has completed 38 passes for 508 yards and 6 TDs. Leading receivers are Jacob Burton with 239 yards and 2 TDs, Grant Jones with 102 yards and 1 TD, Hunter Mills with 64 yards and 2 TDs. Leading rushers are Eli Gondo with 139 yards and 1 TD, Pearse with 103 yards and 1 TD and Brennen Froehlich with 87 yards. Defensively, the Trojans have only allowed two TDs so far this year. Leading tacklers are Justin Gies, Caleb Albert, Austin Schmidt, Froehlich, Gondo, Cameron Sessions, Burton and Carson Shertz.

Sting U14 girls: The Sting played in the Far West Regional league this past weekend, losing to Surrey United 3-0 and Coastal FC 4-0.

Sting U12 girls: The Sting fell 3-1 to the Shadow Elite in Northwest League play on Sunday. Justine Trevino scored an unassisted goal for the Sting.

Sting U14 boys Liverpool: The Sting beat the Spokane Shadow 01 Vierra 1-0 in Spokane last weekend. Liam Hurst scored the game’s only goal on a penalty kick. Jacob Overoye had nine saves in the shutout.

Sting U12 girls Gold: The Sting beat the IEYSA Storm FC G03 Deutsch 5-0 last Saturday in Cheney in Puget Sound Premier League play.
Amber Aittama, Amy Corette, Gaby Roberts, Olivia Wyatt and Sophia Allan each scored once for the Sting, and Danika Nowak had the shutout in goal.

Sting U13 boys Arsenal: The Sting beat Wenatchee United 6-2 on Saturday in Quincy, Wash. Jackson Henkle scored a hat trick for the Sting and Owen Smith, Rylan Carter and Chris Swider each scored once.

Sting U13 girls: The Sting lost 4-1 to the Moscow United U14 last Saturday. Tate Hochberger scored for the Sting.

Sting boys U11 White: The Sting played twice in Wenatchee, Wash., last weekend.
The first game, against Wenatchee Valley United SC Rosa, ended in a 5-5 tie. Landon Lee scored a hat trick for the Sting, and Isaac Fritts and Andon Brandt each scored once. Nate Wyatt had two assists, Isaac Fritts one.
The second game, against Wenatchee FC Zumach, resulted in a 5-2 loss. Isaac Fritts and Nate Wyatt scored for the Sting, and Wyatt had an assist.

Sting U9 boys: The Sting Ronaldo tied the Shadow BU10 SH Navy 4-4. Zach Cervi-Skinner scored a hat trick for the Sting, and Max Cervi-Skinner scored once.
The Sting Messi/Juventis beat the Shadow BU10 NS Josh 8-4. Kai Delio and Zach Cervi-Skinner each scored two goals for the Sting, and Conner Jump, Keaton Gust, Max Cervi-Skinner and Gavin Schoener each scored once.
On Sunday, the Sting Ronaldo tied the FC Spokane B06 Gold 3-3. Rylan Brandt scored two goals, Max Cervi-Skinner one for the Sting.
Sting boys ’03-’04 Gold: The Sting shut out the ISC Gunners B’03 in a double header this past Saturday.
The Sting won the first game 2-0 as Alex Reyes had 1 goal and 1 assist, Max Anderson 1 goal, Walker Jump 1 assist, and Cole Jaworski had the shutout in goal.
The Sting won the second game 3-0, led by Noah Janzen with 2 goals, Alex Reyes 1 goal, Walker Jump with 2 assists and Cole Jaworski with the shutout in goal.
On Sunday the Sting Gold tied TC United B’03 Navy-Hamilton 2-2. Miles Jones and Noah Janzen each had 1 goal, Jack Shrontz 1 assist for the Sting.

Sting boys ’05-’06 Juventus: The Sting won 9-8 against the Shadow BU10 SH Blue this past Saturday. Connor Jump scored 4 goals, Ronan Sternberg 2, and Aaron Ivancovich, Trenton Anderson and Zachary McKenna each scored once.
 
WRESTLING

Buzzsaw signups near: Registration for the Buzzsaw Wrestling Club, as well as the first practice of the season, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Coeur d’Alene High wrestling room.
The club is for wrestlers in grades 2-8. Cost is $45, which includes a USA Wrestling card, T-shirt and instruction.
Coaches include Coeur d’Alene High wrestling coach Jeff Moffat, and assistants Kelly Moffat and Tony Hook.

The Pacific Northwest North All-Stars of the greater Spokane area placed fourth at the PGA Junior League Golf West Regional last weekend at Chehalem Glenn Golf Course in Newberg, Ore. The Southern California All-Stars won, the Northern California All-Stars were second and the Pacific Northwest South All-Stars (Oregon) were third.
Locals on the Pacific Northwest North team are Rhonin Edwards (Avondale Golf Club) and Dominic Mosby (Coeur d’Alene Golf Club).
