Due to changes in parking regulations along the two-block stretch of Fourth Street between Louisiana and Utah avenues, Libby Police have begun issuing parking citations to people who continue to park diagonally.

Libby Police Chief Terry Watson said the road, once a one-way street, has been opened up for two-way traffic which has necessitated the change in parking regulations.

“There’s just not room in the road for diagonal parking with it being two-way,” he said. “We’ve had to change it to parallel parking.”

Watson said signs have been posted to notify residents of the change, but the diagonal lines painted on the streets are causing some confusion for drivers. He cautioned residents that officers on patrol will issue citations for improperly parked cars.
