LIBBY — Khalyn Hageness struck out seven in a complete game but the Libby offense was unable to muster much in a 1-0 season-opening loss to Anaconda on Friday afternoon.

The Loggers (0-1, 0-1 Western B/C) and Copperheads (2-0, 2-0) each were playing their first games since moving to Class B on Friday, and Anaconda struck in the top of the first inning against the Loggers with the game’s only run. Libby loaded the bases in the bottom of the first before having a runner thrown out at the plate to end the threat. The Copperheads beat Eureka earlier in the day.

Michaela Cortright allowed only two hits for Anaconda to earn the win. Andrea Mavrinac doubled and drove in the lone run.

Hageness and Ashley Walker recorded the Libby hits.

The Loggers return to the diamond today with a pair of games in St. Ignatius. They will face off against Deer Lodge at noon before tangling with St. Ignatius at 2 p.m.
