Best Human Resource Solutions owner has best of both worlds

MOSES LAKE — Best Human Resource Solutions Inc. owner Dean Martinez is Moses Lake born and raised.
He got his degree at Central Washington University, lived and worked in downtown Seattle for a time during the late 1990s. But home is not just where you hang your hat, it’s a special place. He and his wife Heidi made their way back, establishing Best Human Resource Solutions Inc.. in 2012 and recently setting up shop in the new building on Broadway.
There’s a lot of good memories here. He likes to hunt and fish, coaches youth baseball. In fact, he still remembers that little stream up above Ellensburg where he caught his first fish using a stick with a string attached as a pole. Family and the lifestyle are important and those are the kind of memories he wants for his own children.
“It’s a good place to raise a family,” Martinez said.
His parents Tom and Arlenne were active in his and his brother’s lives. He’s active in his sons’ lives. His oldest, Cody, 23, is in the U.S. Marine Corps. His 12-year-old Jacob is over at Frontier Middle School. Moses Lake is still a small enough town in comparison to Spokane or the cities on the west side. But he believes it’s important that today’s youth find a support system, whether it’s a coach or teacher or someone else. He does his part, coaching Jacob’s Little League Baseball team.
“It’s unfortunate these days that people go to great lengths to get what they want even if it’s unethical, illegal or unhealthy. It’s a bit of a shame and it’s also sad that our kids see this and grow up with this. It’s not really the way it was when I grew up,” said Martinez. “My parents were good teachers. My grandparents were good teachers. I’ve learned over years that you can’t tear apart a boy to make a man. Kids need help building their confidence. Now days, kids don’t get that help at home. We as coaches need to be role models to help them be successful. The way you do that is to be a little bit more gentler than using the hammer approach.”
He runs his business with that same philosophy. Best Human Resources Inc. it provides a unique service to a unique work environment. It staffs a number of different types of businesses locally to larger corporations, anything from manufacturing or processing facilities.
“It’s a challenge to a lot of companies in this area, staffing and finding people. This area is extremely difficult because of the limited labor force,” Martinez explained. “We provide a lot of services outside of staffing in terms of screening employees, basically fitting the right person in the right job.”
Grant County is unique job market. There are corporations such like Boeing, Mitsubishi, Yahoo! and AstaReal have set up operations here. There’s high-end food processors, ag-related industry, as well as local retail.
“We have a wide variety of different jobs and specialty crafts. Mitsubishi’s hiring a number of people to work on jet engines. There’s a number of different labor positions,” he said. “It’s somewhat unique. We’re still a fairly small town. We have a dynamic set of companies as well as positions that need to be filled. It’s challenging for employers and we have to continue to look for ways to bring talent into the area to fill these positions. It’s challenging for us, as well as everybody else.”
Martinez sees business as a means to an end, but not the end game itself, he said.
“If you would have asked me five years ago would I want to do this,” he said looking around the conference room, “I probably couldn’t have predicted it, but I found something worth working for.”
