St. Regis audience goes wild for production of 'Fiddler on the Roof'

<p>The St. Regis drama department put on an ambitious production of Fiddler on the Roof which included a cast of 26 students, plus a stage, sound board, and lighting crew. The play was held in the high school on March 17 and 18</p>
On March 17 St. Regis drama students put on the most ambitious play they’ve ever produced.
“We had lighting, 27 music tracks, a 13 channel sound board, 15 set changes, and a cast of 26 students ranging from grade school through grade 12,” explained drama teacher, Derek Larson.
The performances, which were held Thursday and Friday, went really well said Larson. He also said that he received extremely positive feedback and audiences were very appreciative with some patrons attending both performances.
The lead character, Tevye, was played by Connor Dunlap, who had some previous experience from being in plays with the Missoula Children’s Theatre.
Larson said that in addition to the actors, they had an excellent stage, and lighting crew, as well as sound board technicians. It was an inaugural performance with all new equipment with very little overall rehearsal time explained Larson and given all the factors, the play went on without a hitch.
Larson said that they will definitely be doing performances in the future, but probably not this ambitious. This one was also expensive, with just the copyright for the play being $800, plus materials. He said it was also difficult given the number of students on stage and the wide variety of age groups.

Runners help cancer patients 'Fuel The Fight'
Colorful balloons representing different types of cancer adorned the finish line at Frenchtown Pond State Park on Sept. 30 at the second annual Fuel the Fight 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. The event is a fundraiser to provide pre-paid fuel cards to help cancer patients in rural communities around Missoula off-set the costs of traveling to and from their treatments.
Students enjoy Talk (and Walk!) Like a Pirate Day
It was all hands on deck at the Mineral County Library’s first Talk Like a Pirate Day program held on Sept. 19 after school. Around 30 landlubber hearties gathered and played games, walked the plank, drew their own treasure maps and drank pirate punch.
Spring wolf sightings reported in area
Prior to 1990, there were very few people in Montana who may have heard the howl of a wolf. By 1925 the species was eradicated from the state and remained virtually extinct until recovery efforts began.
