Kylie Richter Lake County Leader | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 9 months AGO
The Ronan golf team is the only team in the area golfing this spring, as the Class A schools have their season in the fall. In their first meet of the season, Ronan athletes competed very well. The boys’ team took second place behind Loyola Sacred Heart and the girls took third behind Townsend and Thompson Falls. They came in third just one point behind Thompson Falls.
On the girls’ side, Brooklyn Olson led the team with a ninth place finish, shooting a 103. Not too far behind her was Lauryn Hales in 12th, shooting a 105 and Kaitlyn Woirhaye in 15th, shooting a 111. Four Maidens placed in the top 20.
For the boys, Fisher Niemeyer led the team with an eighth place finish, shooting a 83. Also shooting an 83 was Vincent Bird-Webster. Senior Tanner Olson just missed the top 20 with a 91, and in his first high school golf meet, freshman Anthony Camel broke the top 30 with a 94.
The Ronan boys also had a JV team compete in Missoula. Matt McGuyer had the best score out of the Ronan JV team shooting a 109. First year junior golfer Chance Deneault shot 111, Thomas Pretty on Top shot a 115, Kail Cheff shot a 116, and Cody Davis shot a 127.
The team had their second meet in Eureka on Tuesday and travel to Bigfork Thursday.
This past Saturday the Ronan team got together at the Mission Mountain golf course to particpate in their annual give-back day. The team practices at the course everyday. Read more about the volunteer project on page B4.

First Paddle for Clean Water benefits Flathead Lakers
The first-annual Paddle for Clean Water took place on a cool Sunday morning at Flathead Lake’s King’s Point. Over 100 people participated in the event, which aimed to raise money for the Flathead Lakers, a conservation organization in Polson. Even with the chilly start, nobody backed out. In fact, they had a few extras. One of the organizers, Dana Johnston, said she was happy with the turnout.
