ROYAL CITY — In anything can happen news, the Royal City Public Library was damaged last weekend when a runaway car rolled into one the walls.

According to librarian Shannon Stewart, the unoccupied car rolled from the Harvest Foods parking lot and into the wall of the children’s section of the library.

The library was unoccupied at the time. It’s closed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Royal City Police Chief Darin Smith believes the owner of the vehicle placed the transmission in gear when it was parked.

“It just slipped out of gear,” he said.

The car sustained light damage, Smith said. The library has some structural damage.

All of the materials from the children’s room have been moved into other parts of the library. It’s pretty cozy and a bit of a scavenger hunt, Stewart said.

“We are still open for business as usual,” she added.

There will be some temporary adjustments though. Tuesday Story Time with Debra McVey will be held across the street at New Life Church until the damage can be repaired.
