Wahluke golfers improve scores

MATTAWA — When you have a brand-new team, as does Wahluke High School golf coach Tiffany Hedman, the concern is learning the game and improving. The wins come later.
That was the case on Tuesday of last week when the Warriors faced off with Zillah at the Mt. Adams Golf Club near Toppenish in a nine-hole competition.
“The kids did well on a course they have never seen before,” Hedman said. “They continue to improve their golf games and understanding of golf as a whole.”
Hedman said recent practice sessions have been dedicated working on alignment and set-up. She said that paid off in lowering scores. Those were:
- Pedro Mendoza 60
- Carmen Aguilar 61
- Itzel Guerrero 66
- Daniela Mendoza 58
- Zoey Nelson 67
- Esmeralda Lagunas 63
- Navajo Ramirez 71
One girl matched her first competitive score. All other players lowered their scores. All except one shot lower than 70.
The scores from the first competition two weeks earlier were:
- Pedro Mendoza 63
- Carmen Aguilar 61
- Itzel Guerrero 71
- Daniela Mendoza 61
- Zoey Nelson 71
- Esmeralda Lagunas 70
- Nvavajo Ramirez 72
