MATTAWA — Wahluke High School continued its winning ways in soccer last week, taking down defending state champion Highland, 2-1.
For more than a half, it appeared the Scotties would live up to their billing, taking a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute and holding it until the 60th.
Wahluke didn’t win until four minutes of extra time were added. Both teams suffered clock-stopping injuries.
Wahluke tied the score in the 60th minute when Tony Espindola converted a pass from Eduardo Valdenea.
Emanuel Hidalgo put the game in the win column when he delivered on a pass from Brandon Anaya in the 81st minute.
The Warriors, 6-1-2 (1-1 SCAC), will take some time off now. They will play at Kiona-Benton on April 12 and at Connell on April 14.
