OTHELLO — Othello freshman Audisey Sauceda belted a walk-off home run to give the Huskies a 10-0 opening game victory and senior Hadassi Valdez laid down a perfect bunt on a suicide squeeze play to score Kristen Quigley with the winning run in a come-from-behind 6-5 win as Othello swept Ellensburg to remain undefeated in CWAC play.

Othello took advantage of Ellensburg’s decision to save their sophomore ace, Carissa Burgess, for the second game as the Huskies pounded Bulldog starter Kalli Fahey for ten runs on 12 hits, including three home runs, two by Sauceda and one by Quigley.

Nikki Martinez struck out seven and limited the Bulldogs to just two hits in the 10-0 opening game victory. Madison Martinez was 2-for-3 with a double and Kirsten Quigley added a home run for Othello.

Ellensburg appeared to be headed for a split in the second game as Burgess shut down the Huskie offense and the Bulldog hitters, aided by some shaky defense on Othello’s side, managed to touch Martinez for 13 hits in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs scored two runs in the opening inning and held a 5-4 advantage as Othello came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Huskies scored to tie the game and with Quigley on third base, Valdez laid down a perfectly placed bunt as Quigley was running on the pitch and the Huskies pulled off the come from behind victory to claim the sweep.

Madison Martinez was 2-for-4, Quigley was 2-for-4 with a home run, Nikki Martinez was 3-for-4, but the Bulldogs out-slugged the Huskies in the nightcap 13-9.

Selah (8-0) and Othello (6-0) are tied at the top of the CWAC.

Othello travels to Selah on April 23. Selah is at Ellensburg on May 12 to end the league season.
