Columbia Falls will have plenty of public works projects on tap this summer, said public works director Grady Jenkins. One of the biggest projects will actually be completed by the end of April, as contractors will reconstruct Second Avenue West to accommodate sewer, water and provide overflow parking for the new Cedar Creek Lodge.

The $180,000 project is being done by Sandry Construction and came in about $60,000 less than what was estimated. Other streets that will see work include Eighth Avenue and First Street, to accommodate a new bakery and bike shop that’s planned on Nucleus Avenue.

Jenkins said he’d also like to see the parking lots at the Welcome Park near Super 1 Foods and the River’s Edge park paved.

There are also plans to revamp the parking area and access at the Old Red Bridge.

Horine, Pinewood and Marantette Parks will see some new playground equipment

Jenkins said crews have been busy just trying to keep up with growth as several new commercial businesses have come into the city and more are planned.

One new business on Highway 2 across the road from the Cedar Creek Lodge will reportedly house a new frozen yogurt restaurant. Every new businesses or residential home requires some sort of city support, Jenkins noted, which keeps city crews busy.
