SOFTBALL: Wolfpack whip Sentinel, Big Sky

As far as Glacier softball coach Andy Fors was concerned, it was about time.
The Wolfpack rode the strong arm and bat of all-state senior standout Ali Williams for a 5-2 victory over Missoula Sentinel and a dominating 7-1 win over previously undefeated Missoula Big Sky on Tuesday at Kidsports Complex.
“To be real honest with you, I have been waiting for this group to show a little life on the offensive side of the ball,” Fors said.
“Today, for whatever reason, they stepped up and delivered. Moving forward, this is something to build on.”
Glacier had 10 hits against Big Sky (6-1) and nine versus Sentinel.
Williams homered in the first inning of the first contest with Sentinel and struck out 10 Spartans.
She crushed a home run in the second game with Big Sky in the third inning that sailed high over the Wolfpack logo on the 200-foot fence in center field.
After fouling off at least a half dozen pitches in the sixth inning, she ripped a home run with one runner on over the left field fence.
Those were her first round trippers of the season, which brings her career total to 32.
She was 2-for-4 hitting in each game.
Williams had 17 strikeouts against Big Sky and retired the side in the second, fifth and seventh innings.
At one point, she fanned seven in a row.
Williams held Big Sky to a bunt single and a double in the sixth inning, which led to the Eagles only score.
Sentinel only managed to get one hit off Williams.
Glacier jumped out to early leads in both games and never looked back.
“That was big for us,” Fors said.
“That little spark in the first inning did a lot for our confidence and we were able to keep going. Our kids rose to the occasion today. It was nice to see them respond.”
Glacier had no errors against Big Sky.
“We have not be able to have a clean game so far,” Fors said.
“It was nice to have that.”
Erin McHugh went 2-for-4 and Meg Hornby was 2-for-3 for Glacier versus Sentinel.
McHugh was 3-for-4 and scored twice against Big Sky. Christine Connolly also had two hits in three plate appearances in that outing.
Glacier (3-2) travels to Helena on Saturday to play Capital and Helena High.
