It was all Whitefish in a dual tennis outing Tuesday with Columbia Falls.

The Whitefish girls swept doubles play and posted wins at No. 2 and 3 singles for a 5-2 victory in Whitefish.

The Whitefish boys used forfeits at Nos. 2 and 3 singles and 6-0, 6-0 wins by Max Smyley and Brendan Buls in the other two singles matches along with a doubles sweep for a 7-0 win in Columbia Falls.

“I’m proud of our kids,” Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden said.

“It’s tough to lose a tiebreaker and bounced back with a vengeance.”

That happened at No. 3 doubles with Cailyn Ross and Savannah Krause winning 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-2.

Also bouncing back were Holly Hileman and Janette Kolarzik at No. 2 doubles. They won 1-6, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (5).

Winning for Columbia Falls girls were Emily Getts at No. 1 singles and Sammi Mueller at No. 4 singles.

“I’m really impressed with Getts,” Dryden said.

“She looks stronger, quicker and more confident that ever.”

Getts, a senior, has not lost a conference match since her freshman season.

The best showing for the Columbia Falls boys was at No. 3 doubles with John Gilk and Sean Hoerner. They lost to Austin Reese and Clement Delrieux, 6-4, 6-3.

“It’s a new game for the two of them,” Columbia Falls coach Gary Yee said of Gilk and Hoerner.

“They are brand new to tennis. I like the way they are picking up the game. There has been a big difference since they picked up a racket for the first time three weeks ago to now. I expect big things from them.”
