Glacier National Park plow crews ran into some rough weather the past couple of days and are currently at the Haystack Creek slide, which is just beyond the popular Bird Woman Falls Overlook on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road.
On the east side, plows have started on the Sun Road and are in the Jackson Glacier Overlook area. Snow depths there are three to four feet deep.
Glacier’s high country saw a fresh coating of snow overnight Thursday into Friday, but this weekend’s weather is expected to be sunny and warm and people can get into Glacier for free as part of National Parks week. There’s free admission to Glacier from April 16 (Saturday) through April 24.
For motorists, the Sun Road is still closed at Lake McDonald Lodge on the west side and St. Mary on the east side. Hikers and bikers can beyond the closures, but with fresh snow and plenty of sun, they should be on the lookout for avalanches.
The Camas Road is open to vehicles and the Inside North Fork Road is now open to Doverspike Meadow, but not to Bowman Lake or points south.
The Many Glacier and Chief Mountain Road are closed to vehicles, but open to hikers and bikers over the weekend.
The Two Medicine Road is open to Running Eagle Falls and hikers and bikers beyond that.
