'Bandstand Boogie' rounds out Concert Association season Saturday

The Diamonds will perform a tribute to the classic TV series American Bandstand Saturday.

Season tickets on sale for 2016-17
MOSES LAKE — The season finale for the Columbia Basin Community Concert Association is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wallenstien Theater on the Big Bend Community College campus.
The vocal quartet The Diamonds will sing classic pop songs in their “Bandstand Boogie” concert. The show is a tribute to American Bandstand, the TV show which introduced generations of kids to the big acts in rock and roll.
The concert association traditionally is a subscription series, but CBCCA members are offering tickets for individual shows. They are $33 for adults, $15 for children and are available from concert association members, at the door or at the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Association board member Mary Anderson said the group has decided on a special rate for music students and teachers; they pay $5 at the door.
The CBCCA has announced its lineup for the 2016-17 season, and subscription tickets are on sale. New season ticket holders who buy their pass prior to Saturday’s concert will be admitted to Bandstand Boogie free.
Season tickets are available at a reduced price through May 1. Season tickets are $55 for adults, $130 for families, $85 for single parent families and $25 for students if purchased by May 1. After May 1 prices go up $5 in each category.
American Bandstand Was on television for more than 30 years, introducing countless musical acts to teenagers from coast to coast. “Bandstand Boogie” is named for the American Bandstand theme song.
The Diamonds first hit the charts in 1957, and have been performing, in various iterations, ever since. The current quartet focuses on the classic pop of the 1950s and 1960s.
Band members Sean Sooter, Jerry Siggins, Jeff Dolan and Gary Owens combine four-part harmony, both on original Diamonds tunes and music from other groups. The Diamonds feature music from Buddy Holly and the Beach Boys, the Everly Brothers, the movie La Bamba (a biography of singer Richie Valens) and the stage play Jersey Boys, which follows the rise and breakup of the Four Seasons.
The concert association has announced the lineup for the 2016-17 season. Concerts are scheduled for September and November 2016, and March and April 2017. Performers include “Portraits of America” with George Bugatti, featuring classic pop; the vocal trio Tenore, with an eclectic mix of music; Derik Nelson and Family, a vocal trio and Cherish the Ladies, an all-female quartet featuring Irish music.

Hansen Road demolition about halfway completed
MOSES LAKE — Construction crews working to demolish the Hansen Road overpass are halfway through the job. Crews were out Thursday morning demolishing the north end of the overpass while traffic negotiated Interstate 90. Westbound traffic is using the Hansen Road offramp and onramp as a detour, while eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane on I-90. The eastbound lanes shift as different parts of the bridge are demolished.

MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake City Council members approved restrictions on the sale of products containing kratom, both from the plant and synthetic derivatives. Sales will be restricted to people 21 years of age and older.
Ephrata looking for infrastructure, economic development grant opportunities
EPHRATA — Infrastructure improvement usually starts with a plan – at least when a city is looking for state or federal funding to help pay for it. Ephrata city officials are working on plans to help bring in some of that funding, along with working on projects already planned.
