Glacier National Park’s popular Many Glacier Road is now open to motorists. The east side road is a favorite for wildlife watchers, though it’s about a 2.5 hour drive from Columbia Falls.

The Chief Mountain Road on the east side of the Park is also expected to open.

The Two Medicine Road is open to Running Eagle Falls to motorists. On the west side, the Going-to-the-Sun Road will remain closed at Lake McDonald Lodge this weekend. On the east side, the closure remains at Rising Sun. There are no hiker and biker restrictions on the either side of the Sun Road, but because of high avalanche danger, travel is not recommended beyond the Loop on the west side and Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east side.

Park plow crews stopped plowing on Thursday because of the high avalanche danger and a slide that went over Haystack Creek. The plows are at Siyeh Bend on the east side and pioneering near Grouse Point on the west side, before they stopped.

This weekend is expected to be wet in the Park, with highs in the 40s and 50s and rain, with snow in higher elevations. After a week of near summer-like weather, spring will definitely return to the park.
