Esmeralda Lagunas finds herself in the rough on hole No. 11.

MATTAWA — The Wahluke High School golf teams had their first SCAC matches last week against Zillah and Goldendale, and it was a good day for Daniella Mendoza.

The girls were unable to complete all 18 holes due to time restraints. So the scores reflect their front nine at the Mt. Adams Golf Course at Toppenish. Mendoza placed third among the girls.

“That’s awesome for a first year golfer,” Coach Tiffany Hedman said.

Morgan Coyne and Gabbee Pistoresi of Zillah were first and third with scores of 50 and 53 respectively. The rest of the Wahluke girl scores were:

  • Zoey Nelson 72
  • Carmen Aguilar 72
  • Itzel Guerrero 72
  • Najavy Ramirez 71
  • Esmeralda Lagunas 72

In boys competition, Pedro Mendoza of Wahluke shot 121. The winner, with 79, was Andrew Gerchak of Goldendale.
