The Mission Valley Mariners got their season started this past weekend in Eureka.
Against Cranbrook, the Mariners took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, then put up six runs in the sixth to seal the win 13-2. Jacob Herrod and Tyson Petticrew both pitched to Walter Wood. Petticrew went 2-2 in the game. Warren Wood had a double, Walter Wood had a triple, and both had RBIs. Both Julian and Anthony Jones also added RBIs, as did Marquise Askan, who had two.
In a closer game against Missoula, the Mariners could respond to Missoula’s two runs in the third, and lost the game 1-4. The Mariners mixed up their pitchers in that game. Julian Jones, Walter Wood, and Kade Schutzmann all took their turn. Jacob Harrod went 2-3 in the game, and Jones had the team’s only RBI.

First Paddle for Clean Water benefits Flathead Lakers
The first-annual Paddle for Clean Water took place on a cool Sunday morning at Flathead Lake’s King’s Point. Over 100 people participated in the event, which aimed to raise money for the Flathead Lakers, a conservation organization in Polson. Even with the chilly start, nobody backed out. In fact, they had a few extras. One of the organizers, Dana Johnston, said she was happy with the turnout.
