Tennis teams continue to improve

Last Tuesday, the Mission boys tennis team made a statement, defeating Loyola 5-0. Wins came from Nate Doll, Tim Van Elst, and Andrew Esslinger in singles. Doll and Esslinger also teamed up to defeat Loyola in a doubles match.

The girls did not have as much luck, losing 2-4. Sierra Esslinger gave Mission one of their wins, and Alissa Rith teamed up with Esslinger for the other.

On Thursday, Polson traveled to Stevensville while Ronan matched up with Valley Christian.

The Polson girls are still undefeated as a team this year. They took a 7-0 win over Stevensville Thursday. Marlee Congdon, Mollie Lemm, Tessa Nunlist, and Shea McGuiness all won in singles, and three doubles teams also won big.

The boys are out to a good start on the year as well. They defeated Stevensville 6-1. Wyatt Ducharme, Kabe Forman-Webster and Johnny Moore all won their singles matches. Quaid Harlan and Colin Kenney teamed up to win, as did Matt Sitter and Cadis Chowning. Carson McDaniel and Hudson Smith had to go to a tie breaker to defeat their opponents.

The Ronan boys split with Valley Christian, 3-3. Colton Roullier defeated his opponent, as did Caleb Koble and Thomas Yellowbird. The Chiefs’ doubles teams did not fare as well, dropping all three matches.

Ronan’s Breanna Turpin won the only match in their 1-3 loss against Valley Christian. She defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4.

On Friday, Mission hosted Troy and Darby. Results are below.

On Saturday, Mission traveled to Libby for a tournament. The tournament could not be completed due to rain. Before it was rained out, the boys’ singles 3-4 was completed. In that championship, Mission’s Tim Van Elst and Warren Castor faced off. Van Elst took the championship in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2.

In the number one and two singles bracket Nathan Doll won his first game before losing in the quarterfinals. Andrew Esslinger lost his first match before winning his next two. After that, the matches were called off due to weather.

In the number three and four girls bracket, Sierra Esslinger and Alyssia Rith both lost out in two matches. In the number one and two bracket, Daisie Vandenbos lost her first match before winning her second.
