Three candidates are running for two spots open on the Evergreen Fire District Board.
Board incumbents Jack Fallon and Kyle Nace are being challenged by Dave Adams.
The election is being conducted by mail ballot. A total of 3,940 ballots were sent to voters within the Evergreen Fire District, according to county Election Services Manager Monica Eisenzimer.
Ballots must be returned to the Flathead County Election Department by May 3.
• Jack Fallon is running for re-election after serving on the fire board since 2007. Fallon is a financial planner by day and also serves on the Evergreen Water and Sewer Board and Kalispell Public Schools Board.
Fallon said one of things he looks forward to tackling if he’s re-elected is figuring out how to fund a district that has a call base that is similar to a city center, but is funded by an unincorporated rural tax base.
“The users are not always going to be the taxpayers,” Fallon said of the challenge of funding the district.
Fallon said his longstanding involvement in the community since he moved here in 1983 helps give him insight into way to tackle Evergreen’s challenges.
• Kyle Nace has served on the board of trustees for four months after he was appointed by the county commissioners to fill an open seat.
Nace is a firefighter with 16 years of experience who currently works full-time as a firefighter and paramedic in Whitefish. He lives in Evergreen.
Nace said he believes his experience could be valuable on the board, which includes people from all different backgrounds.
“I have an extensive fire background,” Nace said.
When he is not working on a fire truck or ambulance, Nace runs Response Equipment Specialists, a business that services most of the emergency response vehicles in Flathead Valley. Nace said both of his jobs have helped him build relationships with most emergency response departments in the valley.
• Dave Adams, currently a firefighter for Evergreen Fire Rescue, has been involved with the department for 18 years.
Adams previously worked his way up to the assistant chief position, but stepped down to spend more time with his family. In addition to serving one 24-hour shift per week, he works full time at the Flathead County Landfill as an equipment operator.
“The board’s done a lot for us and I feel like I might be able to help my department, help my district,” Adams said of his reason for running.
