SANDPOINT — The Bonner County History Museum's "Free First Saturday" falls during the Festival this month, and museum staff encourages anyone waiting in line to join them for free coffee, donuts and admission between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday.

While there, guests can browse the 1940s and 1950s fashion exhibit "Tales from the Wardrobe," as well as all the general history of the area.

"My favorite room in the museum is our dig room, which presents materials that were recovered when they excavated the old Lakeview Motel when they built the bypass," said Cameron Murray, museum administrator. "It's really cool because it gives you a great look at how rough-and-tumble early Sandpoint was."

The museum also has a couple other events happening in August before it takes a break and readies for new exhibits this fall. On Aug. 20, the museum will host its second afternoon tea. Murray said the tea will be held under the trees of the Arboretum this year, with a traditional English theme.

Last year, the tea was hosted indoors early in the year with about 50 people in attendance. With the outdoor venue this year, she said the capacity will be 85 to 90 people.

"We recommend it as a great idea for moms and daughters, or grandmothers to bring granddaughters," Murray said. "It's just a really lovely event."

She said the ladies are encouraged to wear dresses and facinators or hats. There will be different flavors of tea available as well food, including cakes, scones and sandwiches. Tickets are $30 and tables for groups of six to eight are available.

Another upcoming event is a "Paint and Sip" night Aug. 26 as part of the ongoing monthly series titled "Late Night at the Museum.” One Friday each month the museum remains open late into the evening offering a variety of performances, readings, film screenings, crafts food and more.

The "paint and sip" night, hosted by the Infini Gallery, starts at 5 p.m. featuring local artists who will guide the guests to create their own work of art, so no art experience is necessary. The cost is $40 for the public and $30 for members, and includes painting supplies, food and drinks.

Reservations are required for both the afternoon tea and the "paint and sip" events. Information and reservations are available by calling the museum at 263-2344.

The museum is located at 611 S. Ella Ave. in Sandpoint. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
