Broadway’s most iconic villains and villainesses are hitting the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre’s stage in “Bad Boys of Broadway.” The concert will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge on Sherman Avenue.

Jadd Davis, artistic director at the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, said they wanted to give the audience a mixed definition of what makes a villain with this concert, and also show there’s a bit of depth to them.

“We have villains who are just nasty and wicked and those who are more psychologically villainous,” he said.

The concert will feature songs involving villains from Disney and other Broadway shows.

“Be Prepared” from “Lion King” and “Defying Gravity” from “Wicked” are two Davis mentioned will be included.

“I’m calling the format semi-staged,” he said. “The audience setup is similar to how we did ‘First Date’ for those who saw it last year.”

The performers will use hand-held mics, which, combined with the venue, Davis hopes will help create the feel of being in a smoky New York bar.

“Minus the smoking,” he added. “We’re doing it at a place where people can drink and get a bit more rowdy to go along with the theme.”

Davis said they got the idea for “Bad Boys of Broadway” after a Disney concert they did last year as an end of season celebration concert.

“We were trying to find something with a different theme, and thought how fun would it be to do a show about villains?”

In addition to being the artistic director, Davis will also be performing in and hosting the event. He has been acting with the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre since 2002 and this is his third season as art director.

“For me personally, this is an event it’s impossible to not have a good time at. It’ll be great performers at a fun venue, and is the perfect excuse to have an easy-going night out,” he said.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at cdasummertheatre.com or by calling (208) 660-2958.
