The Whitefish Planning Board on Thursday will review a proposal for a second story vacation rental on O’Brien Avenue.

Tanner Babcock, with Jill Lawrance and Montana Creative, is requesting a conditional use permit for the rental. It would be located above a new two-car garage on the 4,530-square-foot property in the WB-3 general business district, where vacation rentals are permitted. Currently there is a single family home rented out with a short-term rental permit, and a garage, which would be removed to make way for the new structure.

A conditional use permit is required because more than one principal use is proposed for the lot.

The planning staff is recommending approval to City Council with eight conditions, including paving four parking spaces instead of the proposed two spaces.

The planning board will review the proposal Thursday at 6 p.m. It will go before City Council on Sept. 6.
