LEWISTON — Laney Search tallied 20 kills, 58 set assists, 18 digs and 11 aces, leading the Sandpoint volleyball team to a third place finish at the 12 team Lewiston Invitational on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (5-2) went undefeated in pool play, downing Timberlake, St. Maries and Genesee in sraight sets. They then fell 25-20 to Timberlake in the first round of the one-set bracket play format, before bouncing back to beat Prairie (Troy, MT) 25-20, avenging an earlier loss with a 25-20 win against Timberlake, before falling 25-14 to eventual champion Lake City.

“It was a good first showing,” said head coach Erin Roos, whose team is still finding its rotations. “We tried eight different lineups, and learned what we need to work on this week.”

Kayla Neumann was a factor in both rows, finishing with 36 kills and 30 digs, Shelby Kluver added seven kills, 23 digs and three aces, McCalee Cain 19 digs and 14 assists and Grace Hicks 17 kills and four blocks.

“Kayla Neumann had a great day offensively. Laney and McCalee ran the offense well,” praised Roos. “Shelby and Grace emerged as contributing offensive players.”

Kaitlan Ward finished with 19 digs and 14 assists and Cheyenne Nicholson nine digs and six aces to anchor the back row for the Bulldogs, who host Gonzaga Prep on Friday in a home opener.
