The varsity volleyball teams headed to Drummond last Saturday to participate in the Class C Drummond Invitational. Both the Clark Fork Mountain Cats and the St. Regis Tigers came in fourth place in their respective pools. There were two pools of eight teams for a total of 16 teams competing.
In the end, Valley Christian won over Charlo for the tournament championship.
Head Mountain Cat coach, Toni Labbe, said they did well in the tournament. They beat Hot Springs and then lost to Drummond. “We did really well and I’m proud of them,” she said. “I’m proud of how they are developing as a team. We have girls playing who have never played together before and so for us to advance into the afternoon of the tournament was a good thing for us.”
This is the first year of the Superior and Alberton sports coop. Labbe said they had two freshman on the court in the afternoon game. Plus sophomores setting, and a junior who has a lot of experience.
“We are really excited to keep moving forward and getting better,” she said.
Jen Pruitt is in her fifth year as head volleyball coach for the St. Regis Tigers. The assistant coach, and head junior varsity coach, is Buffy Cheesman.
The team has 11 girls this year, and Pruitt said they will probably pull up two eighth graders. They have a few new players making it a bigger team then what they’ve had in the past.
At the Drummond tournament, they came in sixth overall, defeating Twin Bridges. They then lost to Valley.
“The team looks good,” said Pruitt. “We have new plays and we are trying new positions. We also have more height and we are feeling good about the weekend.”
At the tournament in pool 1, Charlo defeated Darby and then Drummond. In pool 2, Gardiner defeated Seeley-Swan, and then Valley defeated Gardiner to make their way into the championship game.
