BCGA Fall Home Horticulture workshops set

Five workshops covering a rich variety of subjects and presented by the Bonner County Gardeners Association, will be held Wednesdays beginning Sept. 14 at the Ponderay Event Center.
Dates and topics are as follows:
n Sept. 14 – Food Preservation with Katie Krill, Master Food Preserver: Learn how to preserve the harvest from your garden with information on canning, pressure canning, freezing, drying, pickling and fermenting foods for future use. Enjoy the fruits of your garden all winter long!
n Sept. 21 – Growing Mushrooms and Fall Mushroom ID with Arthur Church: You can grow your own mushrooms at home! Arthur is a knowledgeable and experienced instructor who will teach the basics of mushroom growing at home. He will also provide identification of some wild mushrooms soon to make their autumn appearance.
n Sept. 28 – ID and Control of North Idaho Weeds with Chase Youngdahl and Brad Bleumer: This class will help you identify the weeds in your landscape and provide various ways to control and/or eradicate them using both chemical and other methods.
n Oct. 3 – Creating Owl, Bat and Osprey Houses with Tom Steffen: This class will include instructions for building homes for birds and bats that help control rodents and insects. The houses also give you the opportunity to observe these creatures. Tom will explain where to place these nests to attract the birds and bats to your property.
n Oct. 12 – Lawn Management with Jack Zimmer: Jack will provide information on how to prep your ground for a new lawn, varieties of grass seed for this area and how to feed and manage the turf on your property for maximum appear and usefulness.
Classes are $10 each per person (no children under 12, please) and will be held from 6-8 p.m., starting promptly at 6 p.m. Check-in starts at 5:30 and attendees are requested to be on time for best seat selection as well as a courtesy to the presenters.

Fees cover the cost of venue, publications, handout materials and the support of non-proift activities of the BCGA.
