ROYAL CITY — A Royal City man was allegedly intoxicated when he rear-ended another vehicle near Royal City Wednesday.
Florentino Gutierrez, 49, of Royal City, was reportedly driving a 1999 Nissan Frontier pickup truck east on Road 12 Southwest, near Royal City, and allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed as he approached the Road A Southwest intersection, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
Octavio Calderon, 37, of Royal City, was reportedly stopped ahead of Guiterrez in a Honda and was waiting to make a left turn onto Road A Southwest. Gutierrez reportedly failed to yield and struck Calderon’s vehicle in the rear. The Honda was then struck by a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Shannon Maginn, 56, of Royal Camp.
Calderon was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, where he was diagnosed with fractures to his hand. Maginn was treated and released. Gutierrez was transported to Othello Community Hospital and was allegedly found to be impaired. He was arrested by deputies and later booked into the Grant County Jail for DUI.
“Charges of vehicular assault are being sought due to Calderon’s injuries,” stated the sheriff’s office spokesman Kyle Foreman.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit is investigating the collision.
