It’s time to break out the window scrapers, boots and shovels.

A storm remains on track for the region and is expected to dump several inches of snow in North Idaho.

“We’re going for about 6 inches,” said meteorologist Randy Mann.

The evening commute will likely be a slick one today, and the roads are expected to be particularly messy by Friday morning.

A winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service is calling for hazardous weather conditions from 6 p.m. today through 4 p.m. Friday.

“Light snow will begin late Thursday afternoon and increase in intensity Thursday night, then taper off to scattered snow showers late Friday afternoon or evening,” said an urgent winter weather message issued Wednesday by the weather service. “Heavy snow accumulation on area roads will make driving difficult and treacherous. The Friday morning commute will be particularly impacted.”

The snow is expected to continue coming down throughout the weekend, with a few inches of accumulation each day.

“I think when you add it up by Monday, we’re going to see 8-12 inches in the valleys, more in the mountains,” Mann said.
