Local artists will network, offer free sketches

COEUR d’ALENE — Artists of all skills and abilities are invited to attend the Calypsos Coffee and Creamery Art Show starting at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Sketch artists and others will take over a few tables, show off their creations and produce new works during the event. Guests will have opportunities to meet artists whose works are on display in the coffee shop, purchase art and receive one free sketch from comic-style sketchers.

"I really enjoy doing artwork for people,” said participating artist Josh Montreuil. "It’s always really fun to draw for kids when they come in with a certain character that’s their favorite."

Whether its superheroes, Japanese manga or something all together different, event organizer Jamari Lawson said this gathering is to stimulate the local artist community and all are welcome. The show will serve as a networking function and inspire artists of all styles, he said.

"It's mostly to get everybody in the same space together," he said. "I don't think there are enough outlets for people who do creative things in the area. There's not a big thing that tries to incorporate all aspects of talent and different types of art."

The Calypsos Art Show is free and open to all ages. Music will be provided by DJ 5quar3.

Calypsos is located at 116 E. Lakeside Ave.
