SPOKANE — How ya gonna keep them down on the farm? Maybe you make them famous on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Moses Lake photographer and all-around farmer’s daughter Sue Tebow has found a way to express herself through her photography. As it turns out, her photography is not only being viewed online, she has attracted the attention of others. Tebow was given honorable mention in the 2017 Spokane Ag Expo Photography Contest for her photo “My Bulls.”

The winners of the 2017 Spokane Ag Expo Photography contest were recently announced.

The theme of the contest was Agriculture in the Inland Northwest. Photographers were asked to submit photos that depicted agriculture in the Inland Northwest and were judged on the theme, composition and creativity.

All of the entries will be displayed at the 2017 Spokane Ag Expo at the Spokane Convention Center Exhibit Halls during “Ag Week in Spokane” on Feb. 7-9. Following the show, the winning photos will be posted on the show’s website at www.agfshow.org.

The purpose of the contest is to promote Inland Northwest Agriculture and to give amateur photographers, particularly from rural areas, an opportunity for their work to be shown and recognized.

“I started taking pictures years ago. I noticed so many people really don’t know much about farming,” Tebow said. “Nothing can move the heart as much as story telling, reaching people in a different way.”

Her Facebook page, of pictures and stories, has gathered an estimated 4,200 followers, she says. Tebow moved her blog to Instagram, and was recently asked by the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center to display some of her photos, along with their stories.

“It’s one thing to have something online, but it’s different to have the photos in front of you and read the words,” she said. “Nothing is better than a story in written form, a lot of people have enjoyed it.”

Tebow is no stranger to the farm, and she helps her husband grow several hundred acres of alfalfa and a small cow-calf operation, in addition to the paid work she does for the Moses Lake Rodeo. Copies of the winning photos are available upon request 509-321-3633 or moleary@greaterspokane.org.
