Prep roundup: Strong second half not enough for Othello against East Valley

OTHELLO — Othello was unable to overcome a six-point first half and lost to East Valley 57-27.
Othello and East Valley played an even second half after the Huskies were able to adjust to the Red Devils’ pressing defense.
“The girls did a pretty good job handling the press they threw at us,” head coach Josh Tovar said.
Macy Hampton scored a team-high 13 points; Alexis Coronado added eight.
“They continue to learn from these tough games,” Tovar said.
Ephrata 55, Connell 49
CONNELL — Ephrata picked up a non-league win against Connell 55-49.

Boys basketball
East Valley 95, Othello 91 (20T)
OTHELLO — Othello lost in double overtime to East Valley 95-91.
The Red Devils hit a free throw at the end of regulation to tie the game 81-81.
“It was a well-played game by both parties,” head coach George Juarez said.
Trevor Hilmes and Kyler Villarreal led the Huskies with 22 and 21 points, respectively; Diego Buenrostro had 19 points.
Ephrata 81, Connell 74
CONNELL — Cameron Clark scored 29 points and Ephrata outlasted Connell 81-74.
The Tigers trailed 24-12 before closing the first half on an 19-8 run. Ephrata held the lead entering the fourth quarter and withstood a flurry of outside shots from the Eagles.
Jake Oxos scored 23 points and Josh Benthem posted a double-double of 12 points and 18 rebounds.
