BUTTE — The Ronan Wrestling team ended up with a 1-4 record this weekend at the Butte Mining Duels.

“We wrestled tough in that match and gave up a few things,” Muir said. “There are a few things obviously that we can improve on. We were giving up a weight class in the duels and that was a free six points for everyone that dueled us.”

Muir said he felt the duels with Great Falls and Sentinel were tougher matches in the duel.

“Our third duel was against Great Falls and we didn’t fair so well in that one,” Muir said. “I can’t remember the score but I know we ended up losing to Great Falls. Against Sentinel, we were 18 to 24 points and closer. The match was pretty tight and we were just giving up that one weight class.”

Muir said he felt the Butte Tournament was a “tough” and “hard” dueled tournament.

“This is a tournament that is very tough to come out on top, especially when you get second out of the gate,” Muir said. “There are a lot of things we can work on. I expect our guys to produce towards the end of the season and do pretty well. It was a tough weekend for our wrestlers and that is what the Butte Mining Tournament is a tough tournament. Our guys came out with a positive and we just have to move forward from there and get better.”

Muir said he felt his team is a “way better tournament team” than a duels team.

“I know it in my mind as you’ve wrestled for years and been a coach for a year that our team is a way better tournament team than at duels,” Muir said. “We will be there at Divisionals and at state when it really counts. Obviously we can really show our good moves and show who we really are.”

Muir said he is “looking forward” to his team’s next events.

“It was a long weekend, we made it back and now we are ready to move on to the next weekend and the next weekend in Great Falls,” Muir said. “Our guys are starting to get into a groove and starting to feel that they can wrestle with some of these guys. We shall see how we fare next weekend and roll right into our home duels against Hamilton.”
