Holiday cheer fills the air, entertainment options

SANDPOINT — Holiday cheer is in the air this week, with a ton of options for revelers all. Starting Friday, the original (and locally written) musical ‘Christmas Carole’ opens at the Panida and runs through the weekend, as well as shows next week.
Also, check out the POAC Gallery exhibit with Ed Robinson, The Storytelling Company’s holiday gathering on Sunday at DiLuna’s and two great concerts by ensembles from the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint, tonight and Sunday.

Thursday, Dec. 15
‘Children Performing for Children’
Venue: First Lutheran Church, 526 S. Olive St., in Sandpoint.
Time: 5 p.m., Thursday
Watch the talented Music Conservatory of Sandpoint Youth Orchestras and Choirs showcase their skills in this holiday performance. Also performing will be the Lake Pend Oreille High School Choir. The concert will be followed by a cookie and cider reception.

Friday, Dec. 16
‘Christmas Carole’
Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave. in Sandpoint.

‘Christmas Carole’ is a locally written, produced and performed musical that premieres tonight at the Panida!
The play is a new, current-day tale based on the Charles Dickens Scrooge classic, with a twist. The show includes a talented cast of more than 30 actors, dancers and singers, featuring Debbie Lindner, Ron Ragone, Miriam Robinson and Robert Moore in challenging memorable roles.
While many cast members have years of theater and musical theater experience, there are also more than 10 actors under 18, filling out the cast and securing this as a real, true family Christmas experience. The cast of ‘Christmas Carole’ has been working hard rehearsing lines, music, songs and choreography for months and it all comes together starting this week.

Ed Robinson Art Exhibit
Venue: Pend Oreille Arts Council Gallery, 302 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: 5:30-7 p.m., Friday
For his involvement with and generosity toward the Pend Oreille Arts Council, Ed Robinson was chosen Artist of the Year at this year’s Art Party. As part of that honor, Robinson will be featured at a one-man-show opening this Friday. Robinson, an avid fly fisherman, shows off his love for the outdoors in both his watercolor and oil paintings.
Robinson’s oeuvre demonstrates his methodical progression from one media to another and with it some outstanding results. This exhibit will be on display until the first week in January.

The Wagoner Band

Sandpoint’s favorite father-daughter duo is back at the Pend d’Oreille Winery! You know, the duo with Mike on the guitar and Sadie rounding things out with the djembe drum and killer vocals.

MarchFourth

MarchFourth returns to Sandpoint for their first show at The Hive. Get ready for a marching band spin on everything from funk, rock and jazz to Afro-beat, gypsy music and Big Band sounds, complete with stilt walkers, acrobats and Vaudeville acts.

Bonners Ferry Community Choir Christmas Concert

Bonners Ferry Community Choir presents ‘Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All.’ The Community Choir has been presenting annual Christmas concerts for more than 40 years and this year marks number 39 for the Barb Nelson and Vicki Blake Thompson duo.
This year’s theme is three-part: The cry of the people; the story itself; and the many images and traditions that have come to be a part of Christmas celebrations. Music includes new Christmas music as well as familiar favorites, plus an audience singalong.
Admission: By donation at the door, with a recommended donation of $10 for adults, $5 for students, or $25 for a family.

Ben Olson normally plays in his band Harold’s IGA, but every once in a while plays solo. His solo shows will feature a collection of originals and covers that don’t normally get played out in Sandpoint.

Spokane Symphony ‘Holiday Pops’ concert at The Fox

The Spokane Symphony presents its annual Holiday Pops Celebration featuring some of the season’s most-loved festive songs and carols performed by the Spokane Symphony, the Chorale and the Spokane Area Youth Choirs. In addition, audiences will be treated to a screening of the Academy Award-nominated short animated film ‘The Snowman,’ while the orchestra provides the live soundtrack. Resident Conductor Morihiko Nakahara and Santa will conduct the orchestra.

‘Amahl and the Night Visitor’

Writers, poets, musicians and listeners are all welcome for the Five Minutes of Fame annual holiday party! A potluck dessert party will be held after the readings and open mic portion of the evening wraps up. Five Minutes of Fame is held on the third Wednesday of every month.
