COEUR d’ALENE — Students at Mountain View High School stepped up to address hunger in their community by organizing a school and community Food Drive for the Rathdrum Food Bank.
The Mountain View Leadership team, also known as Student, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), ran a friendly homeroom competition to motivate students to bring in food.
The school of 96 students collected 615 pounds of food at school and an additional 600 pounds from the community.
The team had a goal of 1,000 pounds, and exceeded it by 200 pounds.
All the food was donated to the Food Bank, which benefits 150 local families each month. The Food Bank is located on Main Street in Rathdrum. Food is available to community members Monday through Friday.
The Mountain View Leadership team would like to thank, Coeur d’Alene Super 1 Foods for supplying the bags, and community members and parents for supporting its goal to collect more than 1,000 pounds of food.
