POWELL, Wyo. — Sophomore point guard Sam Dowd hit a 15-foot jumper with four seconds remaining to send North Idaho College to a 87-86 win over the Northwest College Trappers on Thursday night.

“He’s playing really well right now,” said NIC coach Corey Symons said of Dowd, who finished with a game-high 24 points and six assists. “He’s really starting to get into a groove and lead us on the court.”

NIC (8-1) led 45-37 at halftime, but held off a Northwest rally thanks to a 20-point, 10-rebound night from sophomore Ziggy Satterthwaite.

“We came out a little stagnant in the second half and let them back into it,” Symons said. “Sam’s the guy that got us going and is playing well right now. We started to pound the ball in to Ziggy and he did a great job of getting us back on track. Northwest is a good team, and to come here in a hostile environment against a national team was pretty big. And it started with Sammy and Ziggy.”

NIC will face a group of Wyoming All-Stars today at 4 p.m.

Sukhjot Bains had 22 points and eight rebounds for Northwest (10-4), which had won 10 straight entering Thursday’s game.
