PREP ROUNDUP: Viks rally at Moscow

MOSCOW — Taryn Horvath and Kelly Horning combined to score 18 of 21 points in the fourth quarter, rallying the Coeur d’Alene Vikings past the Moscow Bears 51-48 on Friday night at Bear Den.

“We just executed offensively a lot better in the fourth,” Coeur d’Alene assistant coach Mallorie Franco said. “Both Taryn and Kelly were solid offensively, and both Kelly and Emily Minerath were all over the place and were great on the defensive end.”

Horning finished with 18 points and nine rebounds for Coeur d’Alene (3-4), which hosts Northwest Christian on Monday.

Gracie Meyer scored 29 points for Moscow.

RATHDRUM — Lauryn Cooper scored 14 points and Sofi Schnepf chipped in with five points, nine rebounds and six steals in the Hawks’ loss to Clarkston.

“We played a good team and played them tough,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “We just ended up in foul trouble in the third quarter and let them slip away. We are getting closer.”

Alea Wohl led Clarkston with 15 points.

Tauna Kirk added 13 points for the Hawks (0-10), who are back in action at the Eagle Holiday Classic at West Valley beginning on Dec. 27.

PLUMMER — The host Knights survived 29 turnovers and fended off the Warriors in North Star League play at Ron Miller Court.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “Kootenai played well; honestly, they outworked us tonight, and we made a lot of mistakes ourselves.”

Lillian Rhea scored 12 of her game-high 23 points in the second quarter for Lakeside (5-0, 3-0 NSL). She also had 12 rebounds and five steals. Corin Peone added seven steals and five rebounds, and Sarah Daman had six rebounds.

Kaili Gentry scored 14 points for Kootenai (2-4, 1-2), which pulled within two points after three quarters. Tommia Pakootas scored nine points for Lakeside, including a big 3-pointer to boost the Knights’ lead to eight in the fourth.

Lakeside added a game Monday at Genesee at 7 p.m.

Kootenai travels to Deary on Tuesday.

RATHDRUM — Kaden Davis had 16 points and five assists in a losing effort for the Hawks against the Bantams at Hawk Court.

Clarkston used a 12-0 run at the start of the third quarter to stretch an 18-17 lead to 45-27 after three quarters.

“They just hit some shots and got their transition game rolling really well,” Lakeland assistant coach Bill Ryan said. “Other than that stretch, we played really good defense and with more intensity. Clarkston’s a really good squad.”

Jared Cysewski had 12 rebounds and five points for Lakeland (2-5), which visits Cheney on Tuesday.

MOSCOW — Bryar Sanchez scored 21 points to lead Lakeside past Logos in a battle of the Knights.

“It was nice to get back in the win category,” Lakeside coach Bob Wolcott said. “The kids played really well as a team and played really well at the end of the game. They shared the ball and played with a lot of energy throughout.”

Lakeside (2-3) competes in the Wellpinit tournament on Wednesday, facing Wellpinit at 7:30 p.m.
