KELLOGG — Chase Jerome scored 18 points and Kellogg also got key contributions from Tanner Mueller and Grant Nearing as the Wildcats, ranked fourth in the state 3A media poll, defeated the St. Maries Lumberjacks, ranked No. 2 in 2A, 58-51 in the annual Brawl for the Ball spirit game Saturday at Andrews Gymnasium.

Toby Colburn grabbed nine rebounds for Kellogg (6-0), but was saddled with foul trouble in the second quarter. Mueller and Nearing, the coach’s son, each responded with a season-high 13 points.

“Those two did a pretty good job of stepping up in his absence in the first half,” Kellogg coach Jeff Nearing said.

Jake Sieler hit all three of his 3-pointers, and scored 13 of his 18 points in the first half for St. Maires (4-1).

“We lost Sieler a few times,” Nearing said. “Our defensive effort in the second half was better.”

Kellogg also won the spirit competition.
