Call it a “four-peat” for Columbia Falls.

Columbia Falls city employees and Chamber of Commerce representatives went the distance during last Thursday’s Salvation Army red-kettle bell-ringing competition, bringing in the most donations for the fourth consecutive year. Boosted by a generous donation from Smith’s grocery, Columbia Falls ringers raised $2,687.16, well over last year’s total of $1,780.50. The traveling trophy will remain in Columbia Falls for another year.

Bigfork ringers came in second, raising $1,511.80 for their day of promoting red-kettle donations.

Kalispell didn’t officially participate this year due to a scheduling conflict, but the community nevertheless raised $1,189.08, thanks to a special promotion and matching gift by Smith’s.

Evergreen was in fourth place with $838.02.

Whitefish ringers took in $582.77, and Lakeside brought in $357.50 despite inclement weather.

The Salvation Army uses the kettle collections to provide a variety of services to those who need food, clothing and emergency assistance. Its mission is to meet human needs without discrimination.
