A man struck by a Ford pickup truck on East Idaho Street in Kalispell Monday evening is recovering in fair condition at Kalispell Regional Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesman.

The collision, which occurred around 5:30 p.m., shut down traffic on the busy highway for about four hours between Woodland Park Avenue and Seventh Avenue West-North while law enforcement took roadway measurements at the scene.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Fredenberg said Tuesday that he hadn’t determined why the man had run into the east-bound lane before he was struck by the Kalispell driver, but said no citations had been issued at the time.

Fredenberg said the man underwent surgery after he was transported by ambulance to the Kalispell hospital.

Kalispell Regional spokesman Jim Oliverson described the pedestrian as a “young man” who was conscious with stable vital signs as of Tuesday afternoon.
