In loving memory of Randy Lee Petersen who passed away Dec. 16, 2016. He was born Sept. 11, 1950, to Doris and Lyle Petersen in Kellogg, Idaho, and graduated in 1968 from Kellogg High School.

He played football and had great memories of his high school friends and fast cars, and his grandparents taking him fishing and ice skating. He learned to ski at age 4 at Lookout Pass and it became a huge part of his life — his own downhill ski racing, being a pro patrol at Alpental Ski Area, introducing his kids to skiing and racing, and coaching many kids on the Lookout Pass ski team. Randy and Carole met in April 1984, were married Nov. 24, 1984, and moved to Post Falls. They raised their four children together, Heather, Heath, Brian and Erik and especially enjoyed traveling with them to ski races and soccer games. Watching sports continued as grandchildren Connor and Maya grew up. Family was the most important thing in Randy’s life and we will all miss him beyond measure.

Randy worked for Georgia-Pacific in Spokane for more than 25 years, first as a truck driver delivering building materials to Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington, then as warehouse foreman, and finally as manager to close the branch here in Spokane. He bought his own semi and trailers as an owner-operator and delivered building materials throughout the same region before back surgery forced him to retire. He truly loved working long hours, being up at 3:30 a.m., and was proud of an accident-free one million miles. Naturally he taught all the kids and grandkids to drive. Randy especially liked elk hunting with his hunting partner Jack Alling and fishing with Uncle Rich.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Doris and father Lyle; his sister, Cheryl Oliver; his special aunt and uncle, Wanda and Richard Sullivan; and his in-laws, Evelyn and Bernie Bjorvik. Randy is survived by his wife, Carole; children Heather (Frank) Rivera, Brian (Julie) Allen, Heath (Tara) Petersen and Erik (Devon) Allen; grandchildren Connor Clark, Maya Clark, Pacific Smith Allen and Elleigh Petersen; sisters-in-law Chris Quartin, Sue (Rick) Heckenlively and Donna (Andy) Vargo; brother-in-law Doug Cisney; cousins Terry (Ceil) Nelson and Larry Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial service is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at Lake City Church, 6000 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Charitable donations can be made to the Union Gospel Women and Children Center in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene has been entrusted with the arrangements. Please visit Randy’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
