For the past four weeks, the South Side Sparks 4-H Club in Plains has held a sock drive to collect socks and other undergarments for community members in need.

The Club said more than 500 pieces of new clothing, including 481 pairs of socks, 26 pairs of hand-knitted slippers, and 40 pairs of underwear were collected during the drive.

“We appreciate the cooperation of the Plains Public Schools, Colleen’s Country Store, The Circle Drive-In, and the Sanders County Courthouse for allowing us to place donation boxes in their establishments for the past few weeks, and thank all of the community members who so generously donated items to the effort,” said the 4-H Club in a press release.

The South Side Sparks has more than 50 members, ages 6 through 17, enrolled this year from 30 families in the Plains area, and is supported by a number of adult volunteer leaders and advisors. One of the stated club goals this year is to become more active in community service. This was the first community service project for the year (the 4-H year runs Oct. 1 through Sept. 30).
