Scott Murray has been named the new head coach of the Glacier Twins A team.

Murray previously served as head coach for the Twins and most recently spent the last three seasons as pitching coach for the A team.

Bob Rupp, who served as head coach and general manager for the team for three seasons recently stepped down due to personal commitments. The Glacier Twins American Legion Baseball Board of Directors last week selected Murray as its new head coach and chose Kevin Slaybaugh to serve as the team’s general manager.

Bob Lockman, Twins board member, said Murray brings a broad range of experience to the position.

“We felt like he had a lot of experience and we wanted to hire within,” Lockman said. “The kids all know and love him.”

Murray coached in the Babe Ruth program for many years. Between 2003 and 2013 he served as head coach of the Glacier Twins “A” team for seven seasons. During the 2011 season Murray was hired as the assistant coach for the AA Kalispell Lakers.

“He’s a good coach and we should have a good season,” Lockman added.

Murray is finishing up the 2017 playing schedules, setting up winter player practice sessions and generating player evaluations, according to Lockman.

The Glacier Twins are set to kick off their 2017 season in mid-April with their annual Black and White Game. Their schedule also includes annual tournaments of the Ed Gallo Wood Bat Tournament in June and the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial in July.

The Twins will be hosting the 2017 Western District American Legion Baseball Tournament at Memorial Field in Whitefish on July 20-24, 2017. This is an eight team double-elimination tourney with two of the teams advancing to the Montana state tournament.
