Prep roundup: Josh Benthem's buzzer beater lifts Ephrata over Ellensburg

EPHRATA — It wasn't quite how head coach Brandon Evenson drew up the final play in the huddle, but Cameron Clark made it work.
After an errant pass into the back court, Clark corralled the ball with seven seconds left and fired a one-handed pass between two defenders into the eager hands of Josh Benthem. Benthem scored the lay-up as time expired and Ephrata beat Ellensburg 76-75.
It was another shootout victory as Ephrata withstood 16 made three's from the visitors.
Caden Blankenship and Clark scored 24 points each.
Warden 72, Connell 62
CONNELL — It was a cathartic road win for Warden against Connell 72-62.
“Might have been the first time we've ever won in Connell,” head coach Wes Richins said.
Jose Arriaga made a three-pointer in the fourth quarter to push Warden's lead back to eight points, part of his 11-point night.
JR Delgado and Adam Richins led the way with 25 and 24 points, respectively.
Girls basketball
Ephrata 48, Ellensburg 39
EPHRATA — Ephrata built an early lead and held on to beat Ellensburg 48-39.
Kenedee Peters scored 13 points and Katelyn Ostrowski added 11.
Connell 64, Warden 44
CONNELL — Aubree Skone and Natalie Cole scored 10 points each, but Warden fell to Connell 64-44.
The difference was from the three-point line, as the Eagles made nine to the Cougars' one.
Boys wrestling
Ellensburg 54, Ephrata 25
ELLENSBURG — Ephrata's youth was overwhelmed by senior-laden Ellensburg in a 54-25 loss.
The Tigers' Cole Spencer (182) picked up a win over Tait Stevenson and Clay Johns (113) defeated Cameryn Bair.
