One student was taken to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a Whitefish school bus slipped off the edge of the road and overturned on KM Ranch Road.
Navigating icy roads, the school bus slipped off the edge of the road and overturned on its side at about 4:30 p.m., according to the school district. Emergency responders arrived and children were evacuated from a rear door of the bus.
There were no apparent serious injuries, but one student was transported by ambulance to North Valley Hospital as a precautionary measure, according to the district.
Whitefish School District administrators and representatives from Rocky Mountain Transportation also responded to the scene.
“Our district's quick response team assembled within minutes and developed a communications plan, as well as a follow-up plan for counseling support,” Superintendent Heather Davis Schmidt said. “Our team confirmed bus rosters with Rocky Mountain Transportation as quickly as possible to ensure that all students were accounted for and reunited with their families.”
“Safety is our top priority and I appreciate the fast and professional work of all the emergency responders and our team,” she added.
