PHOENIX — Jonny Hillman poured in four 3-pointers, all in the first half, and finished with 28 points as the Genesis Prep Jaguars edged Camelback High of Phoenix 57-54 on Friday in the third-place game of the 16-team Phoenix Unified High School tournament.
Jacob Schroeder added 15 points for Genesis Prep (5-3), which went 3-1 in the tourney. Junior Williams was named to the all-tourney team from the Jaguars.
“We were determined to finish out this trip strong,” said Genesis Prep coach Marsell Colbert, whose team played four games in three days. “We could tell the kids were tired, but they put forth a great effort at both ends of the floor once again.”
Camelback, a class 5A school in Arizona, is 12-4.

BOISE — Keara Simpson had 11 points for the Timberwolves in a loss to the Eagles in the final day of the TimberLion tournament at Timberline High.
Lake City shot 8 for 43 in the game and was held scoreless in the first quarter against Eagle (12-1), the top-ranked team in this week’s state prep girls basketball media poll.
“We just couldn’t buy a bucket in the first quarter,” Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. “We were getting good looks at the basket, but couldn’t knock them down. We didn’t play a lot of girls down here, and you could tell there was a lag. But we battled and competed, they just pressured us pretty well and and we couldn’t execute down low.”
Bridget Rieken had six points and seven rebounds and Ashlynn Allen had six rebounds for Lake City (10-2), which returns to action Jan. 3 at Coeur d’Alene High.
