Chiefs stumble in second half opener

KENT, Wash. — Tyson Helgesen tied the score at 2-all midway through the third quarter for Spokane, but a late goal by the host Seattle Thunderbirds gave them a 3-2 win in Western Hockey League play on Tuesday in front of a sellout crowd of 6,200 at the ShoWare Center.

Seattle’s win marked the first time the home team had won in four games this season between the two teams. Spokane is now 2-1 against Seattle this season.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan opened the scoring for Spokane in the first period to even the score at 1-1 after the first period. Kailer Yamamoto assisted on the goal, his seventh in as many games for Spokane.

Spokane outshot Seattle 43-24, including 20-5 in the third period.

Keanu Yamamoto had his 14-game scoring streak snapped for Spokane (14-14-5-1, 34 points), which hosts Seattle tonight at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena.
