COEUR d'ALENE — Police scanner recordings indicate a man found dead inside a Coeur d’Alene home early Thursday had been stabbed.

The man was found by Coeur d’Alene Police officers after they responded to a report of a physical dispute between a boyfriend and girlfriend at a home on Fallview Drive. The woman, who fled to a neighbor's home, sustained head and facial trauma, according to a statement issued by the police department.

When officers attempted to speak to the man who was still inside the home, he was found deceased.

Police have not released the names of the man and woman involved, and would not release any additional information on Thursday. However, archived police scanner recordings offered some additional details.

Dispatchers said a 34-year-old woman was injured and located at a residence next-door to the home from which the woman reportedly fled.

“Bleeding from her face, eyes are swollen shut. Unknown weapons, unknown intoxication,” said a dispatcher, describing the woman’s injuries.

At 12:07, a dispatcher named the man involved in the domestic dispute and said he should still be at the Fallview Drive location of the reported dispute. The Press decided not to include the man’s name in this report, since the police have not officially identified him and next of kin may not have yet been notified.

A few minutes later on the scanner recording, a police officer reported finding a man down and unresponsive.

“We’ve got a male with multiple stab wounds," the officer said to dispatch.

Police had crime scene tape around both houses Thursday, and investigators were in and out of the home where the man’s body was found throughout the morning.

Neighbors said they didn't see or hear any late-night commotion, including Kenny Magoon, who was up late watching TV when the tragic events transpired.

"I've known 'em a little over a year now, and they seemed nice and pleasant," Magoon said. "It's kind of weird that this happened. Kind of hard to explain."

Larry Morris, who lives directly across the street from the incident, said he used to babysit for the neighbors he described as "normal."

"This is a really good neighborhood with really good people," Morris said. "...But stuff like this happens. Even though you think you know some people, you really don't."
